    AIDS week from today

The Global AIDS Week of Action-2008 (18-24 May) is to be marked by a demonstration demanding the speeding up of the implementation of the HIV Prevention Bill that would enforce a law to protect people with HIV/AIDS from discrimination.

The Bill, pending since July, 2007, would play a key role in reducing gross human rights violations against marginalised groups, ensure employment of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHAs), give access to hospitals for infected pregnant women and admission to schools for HIV children.

The highlight of the two-day campaign, conducted by Tamil Nadu AIDS Solidarity Action (TASA), is a mobile van with a model of the ‘equality statue’ with characters of various professions like actor, doctor, teacher etc. that will go around the city, providing information to the public about the Bill.
