This is because the retail Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) handset market is going to be stirred by the entry of telecom major Reliance Communications (RCom).
RCom is into the CDMA handset business and is set to make a foray into GSM retailing in a month.
Apart from the petty vendors, major business houses like the Essar Group, RPG and Subhiksha and major mobile manufacturers like Nokia, LG, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson are currently in the GSM handset business in a small way.
Reliance, however, will have its footprint everywhere, thanks to its existing network of stores that gives it an edge over others. It could also lead to consolidation of the business and make it more organised.
