Inspector-general of police, Mr Kishan Kumar, said that Orissa police team arrived in the state on Tuesday morning and took Raja Acharya into the custody.
The alleged gangster was produced before a local court and transit remand was attained.
Orissa police team headed by assistant commissioner of police, Mr Suresh Mahapatra, will be taking Acharya to Bhubaneshwar by Wednesday.
“We are yet to decide when to take him,” Mr Mahapatra said, outside the local court here. Acharya was arrested in Panaji on Monday in a joint operation by Orissa and Goa police.
Mr Mahapatra said that Raja has been on the run since the murder of the 40year-old judo coach and the police had launched an extensive search for him.
Earlier, a non-bailable warrant of arrest was issued against him and he was declared as an absconder on May 3 after Das was shot dead in Bhubaneswar on April 13.
The accused is wanted in more than 30 cases of extortion, murder and robbery.
